Unless you've been living under a rock. I'm sure you all have either seen "The Dark Knight"...or heard about it...read about it...etc.
When Julie & I spoke about the most recent "HALLOWEEN" remake, she said she didn't like it. When I asked her why, she said "I dunno, I like my bad guys to just be bad guys. No backstory. No answers. Just be bad...makes them more scary. I don't want to empathize with them."
While I understood what she was saying, I never really felt what she was saying. Until I saw Heath Ledger as The Joker.
THAT is a bad guy. No reason. No explanation. You never know why. There is no vengeance - no remorse - again, no reason.
Patrick said he found himself thinking in the middle of the movie "man...I hope they kill him."
I think this is the reason why I didn't really enjoy "Spiderman 3" as much. I felt sorry for Sandman, I felt sorry for Venom. And, don't even get me started on my love for James Franco's Harry Osborn.
After watching Dark Knight, I realized that I actually liked not liking my bad guys. I wanted them to catch him yet I wanted to see what he did next.
THAT makes a good bad guy. No empathy.
Just plain psycho.
Heath channeled something dark. Whatever it was, it worked.
